Holy Trinity Discussion

During Great Lent after the Presanctified Liturgy we have a meal and then discussion group. A book is selected and we discuss the book. Those who attend greatly enjoy it.

Presanctified Liturgy is basically the beginning of Vespers with Communion.  The Lamb is consecrated at the previous Divine Liturgy and is distributed at the end of this service.  It is a lenten service.

Our Eucharist is leavened bread.  The priest cuts out a cube from the loaf and consecrates that.  In the Russian practice, five loaves are used, but the Lamb comes from only one of them.  In the Greek practice, only one loaf is used.

The Lamb is cut from the first loaf and particles are taken from the other loaves to represent people from the Church militant and the Church triumphant.  The Church militant are you and me, those of us who are still working out our salvation.  The Church triumphant are those who have gone on before us.  We pray for both the living and the dead.  We can't explain how, but we do know that it is beneficial.
