First Snow of the Year
On Tuesday 6 January 2015 we had our first snow of the year. I took
the bus to church that day. What a trip. I just did catch the #13
bus and when I got off that bus, the #40 was there and I caught it.
At this point it appears that I would be at church in plenty of
time. But it took 20 minutes to get from the Patterson Park
Enoch Pratt Public Library to Wolfe Street, about three quarters of
a mile away. Apparently there was an accident between Wolfe
Street and downtown and that tied up traffic. As a result, we
had six MTA buses within two blocks. I was on the fourth bus
at Wolfe Street. You know that something is wrong when the #23
catches up with the #40 QuickBus.
When I take the #40 to go to church, I get off the very next
stop. QuickBus is a limited service bus. In the same
stretch, the #23 and the #20 make about five stops for the one stop
that the #40 makes.
At one point I jokingly told either the driver or another passenger
that I feel as if I were in a small town with nothing to do but to
go downtown and watch the traffic light change colors. This went
over the head of most people who heard it. When I lived in
Derry NH, I lived one block from the traffic
light. I absolutely love that town. But I hate cold
weather.
