Progress
Some of us are happy to see the progress going on in East Baltimore.
Wednesday 4 February 2015 a crew was replacing the gas line to a
house on North Rose Street. The house is being rehabilitated and it
looks pretty good inside as far as we could see from the street with
the front door wide open.
Of course there is the block on East Eager Street where the houses
were demolished last year and a park will be built there.
There are also two blocks on Ashland Avenue which were demolished
over a year ago. I suspect that housing will be built
there. I also hope that a grocery store will go there.
There is no real grocery store in the area east of Broadway.
However, there are still issues which need to be addressed
badly. The alley across the street has become a dumping ground
after the dumpsters were removed at 901 North Milton Street.
Also, the back yards in both houses around the rehabilitated house
have also become dumping grounds. This latter problem started
in November and at least two requests have been sent to the City of
Baltimore and an inspector has come out, but the trash is still there
as of the date of these photographs.
Many of us believe that a part of the problem is that the City picks
up trash only once a week. That works in some areas, but not
in this area. If my trash is picked up on Friday morning and I
have a party, especially something like a crab feast, on Friday
evening during the summer, I do not want to keep that trash in my
house for a week. So what do I do?
