Community Walk
Doing a police ride-along is a part of my duty as a community
chaplain. Plus it is very interesting and educational. We hear about
the bad officers, but we do not hear about the great officers who
are doing a fantastic job.
One of the things that the police do is community walks. An
officer, or maybe even more, would walk around the community with
citizens and community leaders to look for problem areas, for
example, extremely tall grass, safety hazards, unboarded vacant
houses, etc. This also gives citizens an opportunity to share
issues with the police. We also pass out flyers with important
information. This is an opportunity to educate ourselves and the
communities.
In this walk City Council candidate was with us. She was
active the day after the riots and she has also participated
personally in other events. |
