Book Festival
There are two City events which I rarely miss. One is the Book
Festival and the other is ArtScape.
There are three events which I absolutely do not miss: The
Russian Festival at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, the Greek
Festival at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, and
the Greek Festival at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. If I
miss one of the latter two, some γιαγια would notice and I'd be in
big trouble.
When I was working in the Warehouse in Baltimore City at Comcast, I
was moving one weekend, but I still managed to get to the Greek
Festival at St. Nicholas. I mentioned this at work and one of
my co-workers was very upset with me because I went to the Greek
Festival and not to AFRAM. He thought that because I'm black,
I should had attended AFRAM instead of the Greek Festival. I
have attended AFRAM only once in my life and that was too many times
for me.
I just wish that I could find more books in other languages at the
Book Festival. I can read English, French, Russian, and Latin
at a decent level and Spanish and Italian at a very basic
level.
I also liked the Book Festival better when it was in Mount
Vernon. I was more cozy. Now it is too spread out and I
rarely see more than half of the exhibitors. This year I went
there after visiting the Streetcar Museum since it was Museum Free
Weekend.
I was delighted to see the chess pieces there. I was one of
the top chess players in both high school and college and
established the Chess Club at both. |
