National Nite Out

The first Tuesday of August is the National Nite Out and people are encouraged to get out and get to know their neighbors and help fight crime.

Because of the weather, I did not arrive as early as I would had like.  We were having thunder storms, so I delayed my departure from home, just long enough to miss my Amazon deliveries.  I left home at 18:51, according to SimpliSafe, my alarm company.  Amazon said that they delivered the packages at 18:46.  Thank God that Ms. Betsy receives my packages for me.  She is a sweet 84-year old woman down the street.  Stanley used to receive my packages until he said that I need to start paying him.  Only once in my life did I ever have to pay to have packages delivered to an address and that was when I made arrangements with a mail box business in Alexandria VA.  When I lived in Derry NH UPS would drop off packages at the barber shop next door to my photography studio or at the taxicab office.

The trip to the Washington Hills celebration was a two-seat trip.  I took the PK to Wolfe Street and waited about 20 minutes and took the GD.  While waiting, I engaged another passenger in a conversation and he said that he supports anything that fights crime.  So I told him about the ride-along program and the Citizens Police Academy, both of which are open to Baltimore City residents.  The man lives around the corner from my church and close to the National Nite Out event, so when we got off the bus, he decided to join us.  He did not realize that it was Tuesday.  He thought that it was Saturday.

When I arrived, I was immediately told that they received the donation from my church.  I also saw Major George Clinedinst, the commander of the Southeastern District, and is XO, Captain Tomeche Brown.  Fire Engine 70 was there and they had to leave for a call but they returned.

During the event the bouncing house collapsed and Major Clinedinst immediately went into action to assist in getting everybody out safely.  There were no injuries, as far as I know, although one little girl was in tears because the incident frightened her.  Major Clinedinst and her mother or grandmother consoled her and so did I.

There was plenty of good food and apparently everybody had a great time.  There will be another event next month which Idefinitely plan to attend.

For some reason the bouncing house collapsed, but nobody was injured.
