Feast of the Annunciation 2009
Unless there is an emergency or a very major conflict, I will be at Vespers for the feast of the Annunciation. This year was no exception.
The feast of the Annunciation is definitely biblical. We remember the appearance of the Angel Gabriel to a young maiden named Mary and the angel tells her that she will become the mother of the Messiah. Mary's first reply was how could this be since she does not know man. The angel tells her and her reply is the famous Fiat (Let it be done).
The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation celebrates its patronal feast day and the clergy from the local parishes assemble to celebrate with them. This year we had Fr. Dean, Fr. Ray from St. Matthew, Fr. Michael from St. Nicholas, Fr. Ted from St. Andrew, Fr. Gregory from Holy Cross, Fr. Theodoros from St. Mary, Fr. John from Holy Trinity, Fr. Louis from St. Demetrios, Fr. Anathasios (who gave the homily) Fr. Manuel from St. Mary Magdalene and Marketa, and Fr. Duane from St. Matthew.
Most of the priests wore blue since it is the feast of Mary. Some wore gold which is our generic color.
After the service, we had a very nice reception downstairs. If you do not already know, the Greeks really know how to put together a fantastic spread. |
