Pentecost 2009
The service was a little long and it was a little humid, but I survived. I don't know how well Fr. John did, but I'm so glad that he has a deacon to take some of the load from him.
We had the Divine Liturgy with the special Antihpons and they were sung in both English and Church Slavonic. After that we went right into Vespers and we skipped very little of it. Plus there was a sermon.
This year the Kneeling Prayers seem to go much faster for me. I have no idea why. But I'm not complaining.
Before the Liturgy, Vadim and his wife did a wonderful job of decorating the temple for the feast. Also Ala arrived with my green robe and she did a fantastic job, as usually. I did not have to risk tripping on it.
When the robe was made, we used the measuring chart from one of the companies on the Internet. We used the same chart for the vestments that the parish purchased several years ago and all the vestments were too long,. Obviously, there is an error on the chart. So my robe was three inches too long. At least, Ala cut off three inches from the bottom. Technically it might be an inch too short, but that's OK. I know that I don't trip on it, even when going up stairs.
After the service we had a nice luncheon in the parish hall. We had salad, bread, donuts, and baked chicken. It was good.
Most of the photographs were taken by David, our web master. I took the first 15. |
