Divine Liturgy
Serving the Divine Liturgy is always a blessing, but it was even more special serving in Detroit for personal reasons.
Sharon got me to the temple in plenty of time. I vested and before the Liturgy I went over it with Deacon Daneil to make sure that we are on the same page.
For the services this weekend I wore the traveling off-white robe made by Mrs. Polivanov of St. Nicholas Cathedral in Washington and the red stole-cuff set made by Mrs. Misijuk of Poland. Back in 1988 Mrs. Polivanov made me a set of vestments specifically for traveling since I was going away for six weeks of military duty. But I did not order cuffs. Almost ten years later I was ordained a deacon and need cuffs. But Mrs. Misijuk made me a red set which I use frequently.
I served as the second deacon. In the Orthodox Church when we have more than one deacon, we just divide the duties. We can have six deacons serving in a hierarchal Divine Liturgy and each one will have things to do. The highlight of the Liturgy for me was to hear The Angel Cried in the tune that I really love. In fact, most people who know that tune love it and it is very easy to learn. One choir director told me that his parish would lynch him if he did not sing it. Another person told me that if they have two or more people, they sing this tune. Unfortunately, we do not sing it at my parish. I hope that we will soon.
After the Liturgy we had the usual coffee hour. Then Reader John took me on a tour of Detroit. That is on another page. |
